As the blue-green, highly prized variety of the mineral beryl, aquamarine takes its name from the Latin for "waters of the sea.” The stone evokes the clear, crystalline quality of water, and the varied light-to-dark shades of the ocean. It’s also the birthstone for March.

Druzy Quartz

A term for the layer of tiny quartz crystals that can form on the surface of a quartz base (also referred to simply as “druzy” or “druzy stones”), it has a sugar-like appearance in a wide variety of colors, often found in the hollow cavities of agate geodes..

A variety of the beryl mineral family, emerald is a rare and highly sought-after precious gemstone that gets its green color from traces of chromium, and occasionally vanadium.

January’s birthstone is most commonly found in a deep, dark red, but also comes in many other colors known by different gemological names, such as spessartite (orange), hessonite (brown-orange), rhodolite (hot pink or magenta) and tsavorite (bright green).

Hessonite Garnet

Madagascar Rose Quartz

A variety of beryl in a pink to peachy-pink color brought about by traces of manganese, it was discovered in 1910 by Tiffany & Co.’s top gemologist at the time, George Kunz. Kunz named it in honor of his friend J.P. Morgan (the financier and philanthropist was an avid gem collector and made gifts of them to the American Museum of Natural History in New York and other institutions).

Moss Agate

A form of chalcedony, with green inclusions encased within the stone that suggest moss, trees, plants, and other vegetation.

Moss Aquamarine

A type of beryl with an earthy, greenish-blue hue, and heavily included with trace elements of Iron that create the appearance of darker, deeper green flecks and specks.

Metaphysical Properties Moss aquamarine is referred to as the "Courage Stone” and like traditional blue aquamarine, can calm fears and phobias, and bring a fluidity to the expression of ideas and emotions.

Multi Sapphire

The mineral Corundum that is colored by various trace elements such as iron, titanium, chromium, copper and magnesium. Differing amounts and combinations of these trace elements give sapphire it's wide range of colors.

An attractive healing gemstone used to release power, creativity and balance in life. The stone helps in creative expression, optimism, friendship, sibling rivalry, fortifying loyalty and to sharpen memory.


Formed by a combination of silicon dioxide and water trapped within solid rocks like limonite, sandstone, rhyolite, marl, and basalt, opal is distinguished by its iridescent play of color—a.k.a. “fire”—which reveals itself when exposed to a light source. It’s also the birthstone for October.

Several varieties are used in jewelry, including:

  • Boulder Opal found in cracks or coatings in and around ironstone and sandstone boulders.
  • Opal Doublet which is a thin slice of precious opal cemented onto a backing, usually a piece of ironstone.
  • White Opal which has a milky pale white appearance with bright flashes of fire

This sulfide mineral is commonly known as "fool’s gold" because of its metallic luster, cubic crystal structure, and pale brass-yellow hue. In jewelry, it often appears as cabochons, beads and faceted shapes (it’s not used as a metal like actual gold).

Ruby is the red gemstone variety of the mineral Corundum. It owes its color to the trace element chromium and can vary from a deep crimson or purple to a pale rose. The word Ruby comes from ruber, which is latin for red.

Strawberry Quartz

Found only in Tanzania, near Mt. Kilimanjaro, this rare, highly coveted version of the mineral zoisite comes in gorgeous shades of blue, blue-violet and vibrant purple. It was first discovered in 1967, and   is also a relatively new alternative birthstone for the month of December.

A traditionally yellow or orange-yellow stone akin to citrine, except it’s an aluminum silicate mineral, not a form of quartz. The name originates from the Singhalese word “turamali,” which means "stone of mixed color".

Turquoise is an opaque blue-to-green mineral that is a hydrated phosphate of copper and aluminum. It is rare and valuable in finer grades and is thereby referred to as "sleeping beauty" turquoise. Turquoise has been used as an ornamental stone for thousands of years. The word turquoise dates to the 17th century and is derived from the french word turquois, meaning "Turkish". This name was given because the mineral was first brought to Europe through Turkey from the mines of Persia.

White Quartz
