Agate

Jewelers love working with this stone, a variety of chalcedony, which comes in innumerable forms—plain white, or banded with stripes and swirls, or even detailed with dendrites (naturally occurring green or brown branch-like patterns).

Amazonite

Named after the Amazon river and evocative of the area’s rainforests, its green bright tropical green color is translucent to opaque. Belonging to the feldspar mineral group, amazonite has been appearing in jewelry since ancient Egyptian times (it was discovered among the precious artifacts in King Tut's tomb).

Metaphysical Properties Known as the "Stone of Hope," amazonite is an auspicious gem that attracts good luck and prosperity. (As such, it’s also known as the "gambler’s stone.” Amazonite can also alleviates stress, soothes the nervous system and calms emotions.

Amethyst

The violet-hued variety of the mineral quartz. It’s also February’s birthstone.
Origin Found abundantly in Brazil. Other locations include South Korea, Austria, Russia, India, Africa, U.S. and Canada.
Metaphysical Properties A stone that brings a sense of peace to the wearer, acting as a natural tranquilizer, relieving irritability, anxiety, and even the effects of grief. it also aids in alleviating insomnia, and many believe it helps those who suffer from addiction. Its name comes from a Greek word meaning "not intoxicated,” and is therefore considered a strong antidote to drunkenness.


Apatite

Displaying a color so vivid and vibrant that it’s often mistaken for tourmaline, topaz, and beryl, the neon-blue variety of apatite is the most beautiful, and is coveted by designers and jewelry lovers alike.

Aquamarine

As the blue-green, highly prized variety of the mineral beryl, aquamarine takes its name from the Latin for "waters of the sea.” The stone evokes the clear, crystalline quality of water, and the varied light-to-dark shades of the ocean. It’s also the birthstone for March.

Origin The most abundant and precious specimens are sourced from Brazil. Other deposits have been found in Angola, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Nigeria, Mozambique, Pakistan, Russia, Tanzania, Zambia and the United States (Colorado).

Cacoxenite Amethyst

Also known as Super Seven crystal, because it’s a type of quartz formation that can combine of up to seven different mineral specimens: amethyst, quartz, rutile quartz, smokey quartz, goethite, lepidocrocite, cacoxenite, and sometimes hematite.

Origin First discovered in Espiritu Santo, Brazil but can also be found in major quartz deposits all over the world.

Carnelian

A form of chalcedony, with a brownish-red, and sometimes bright orange hue colored by the mineral impurities of iron oxide.

Chalcedony

A type of quartz that takes many forms and colors (see: agate, chrysoprase, onyx, and carnelian for example) but in jewelry, the name usually refers to the white, blue, or gray varieties.

Metaphysical Properties A stone that creates a sense of balance and harmony, chalcedony absorbs negative thoughts and feelings and replaces them with instincts to practice kindness and generosity.


Chrysoprase

A distinctive and very rare variety of chalcedony containing a cryptocrystalline form of silicon dioxide. Chrysoprase is highly prized for its unique minty apple green color that can alternately appear opaque or opalescent.

Citrine

A variety of quartz that’s beloved for its vibrant, rich yellow hues. Evoking golden honey and the warmest afternoon sunshine, citrine can also have whisky-brown or orange undertones and is an alternative to November’s traditional birthstone, topaz.

Diamond

A sparkling, brilliant, and super durable gem made of crystallized carbon that can be cut and polished into a variety of shapes and sizes for engagement rings. We often accent our jewelry designs with diamonds in their tiniest form (termed melee and pavé). DIamonds come in a variety of colors (in addition to the classic white), and we love using the champagne, black, and gray shades in our jewelry.

Druzy Quartz

A term for the layer of tiny quartz crystals that can form on the surface of a quartz base (also referred to simply as “druzy” or “druzy stones”), it has a sugar-like appearance in a wide variety of colors, often found in the hollow cavities of agate geodes..

Emerald

A variety of the beryl mineral family, emerald is a rare and highly sought-after precious gemstone that gets its green color from traces of chromium, and occasionally vanadium.

Garnet

January’s birthstone is most commonly found in a deep, dark red, but also comes in many other colors known by different gemological names, such as spessartite (orange), hessonite (brown-orange), rhodolite (hot pink or magenta) and tsavorite (bright green).

Geode

A unique stone found at least 100 feet below the earth's surface, gem-quality geodes have a hard, unremarkable rock shell with insides that reveal a variety of glistening quartz crystals and often secondary minerals or formations such as hematite, calcite, apatite, stalactites and galena crystals, just to name a few.

Green Onyx

A form of (dyed) bright green chalcedony or agate.

Hessonite Garnet

A grossularite variety of garnet known and loved for its unique warm yellow-to-reddish tone.

Kyanite

A form of aluminum silicate with a brittle and fibrous quality that makes it difficult to use in jewelry. But few designers can resist its deep, shimmering colors, which range from a brilliant cornflower blue, to a streaked pale blue, or bluish-green.

Labradorite

Belonging to the feldspar mineral group, it’s treasured for its remarkable color play, known as “labradorescence”—basically, compelling flashes of blue, violet, brown, gold, and gray, sometimes all at once.

Lapis

A gemstone prized for its intense blue color since antiquity, it’s also commonly referred to as lapis lazuli, a name that derives from the Latin word for stone (“lapis”) and the Persian word for blue (“lazhuward"). In jewelry, the stone is cut into cabochons, beads, inlays, and tablets.

Madagascar Rose Quartz

A variety of rose quartz characterized by its deep pink color and asterism (i.e., cat’s eye/star effect)

Morganite

A variety of beryl in a pink to peachy-pink color brought about by traces of manganese, it was discovered in 1910 by Tiffany & Co.’s top gemologist at the time, George Kunz. Kunz named it in honor of his friend J.P. Morgan (the financier and philanthropist was an avid gem collector and made gifts of them to the American Museum of Natural History in New York and other institutions).

Formed by alternating layers of the feldspar minerals orthoclase and albite, it produces a phenomenon called adularescence—the soft light that glows from within, and shimmers across the gemstone’s surface.

Moss Agate

A form of chalcedony, with green inclusions encased within the stone that suggest moss, trees, plants, and other vegetation.

Origin Australia, Russia, India, U.S. (Montana)

Metaphysical Properties Known as a "stone of abundance," it is also said to attract wealth and prosperity. Moss agate also draws in those with an interest in gardening and landscape architecture.


Moss Aquamarine

A type of beryl with an earthy, greenish-blue hue, and heavily included with trace elements of Iron that create the appearance of darker, deeper green flecks and specks.

Metaphysical Properties Moss aquamarine is referred to as the "Courage Stone” and like traditional blue aquamarine, can calm fears and phobias, and bring a fluidity to the expression of ideas and emotions.


Multi Sapphire

The mineral Corundum that is colored by various trace elements such as iron, titanium, chromium, copper and magnesium. Differing amounts and combinations of these trace elements give sapphire it's wide range of colors.

An attractive healing gemstone used to release power, creativity and balance in life. The stone helps in creative expression, optimism, friendship, sibling rivalry, fortifying loyalty and to sharpen memory.


Opal

Formed by a combination of silicon dioxide and water trapped within solid rocks like limonite, sandstone, rhyolite, marl, and basalt, opal is distinguished by its iridescent play of color—a.k.a. “fire”—which reveals itself when exposed to a light source. It’s also the birthstone for October.

Several varieties are used in jewelry, including:

  • Boulder Opal found in cracks or coatings in and around ironstone and sandstone boulders.
  • Opal Doublet which is a thin slice of precious opal cemented onto a backing, usually a piece of ironstone.
  • White Opal which has a milky pale white appearance with bright flashes of fire

Metaphysical Properties A common misconception is that it’s bad luck to wear opals if they’re not your birthstone. Pearl

Pearls form naturally in live oysters; today, the vast majority of pearls cultured—that is, the lustrous gems are grown on pearl farms around the world. To replicate what happens in nature, a foreign object is inserted into the oysters, a process that produces a variety of freshwater and saltwater pearls, which can be perfectly round in shape, coin-like, or deliberately misshapen (i.e. keshi pearls and any baroque pearls).

Peridot

As the birthstone for August, and the gem variety of the mineral olivine, the prettiest, most desirable examples of peridot display a neon chartreuse or lemon-lime hue.

Peruvian Opal

The national stone of Peru is a sedimentary rock formed at a low temperature from igneous rock with a high silica content. Unlike other opals, it does not display flashes of fire, but rather, an evenly distributed, richly saturated blue-green color.

Prasiolite

Pyrite

This sulfide mineral is commonly known as "fool’s gold" because of its metallic luster, cubic crystal structure, and pale brass-yellow hue. In jewelry, it often appears as cabochons, beads and faceted shapes (it’s not used as a metal like actual gold).

Rhodochrosite

A manganese carbonate mineral that’s pink in color (rosé to a deeper watermelon shades), often with a visible white banded pattern.

Rose Quartz

Rose quartz is the pink variety of the mineral quartz.

Rubellite

Red Tourmaline is sometimes referred to a Rubellite and has a beautiful bright red to pinkish red color.

Some believe Red Tourmaline to be useful in neutralizing the harmful effects of electronics form microwaves or computers.


Ruby

Ruby is the red gemstone variety of the mineral Corundum. It owes its color to the trace element chromium and can vary from a deep crimson or purple to a pale rose. The word Ruby comes from ruber, which is latin for red.

The blue variety of the mineral corundum owes its color to trace elements of iron and titanium. Solar Quartz/Stalactite Quartz

A natural agatized Quartz that is sliced from stalactites, it occurs in clear, white, or gray color, with or without mossy inclusions.

Strawberry Quartz

A pink variety of quartz with red inclusions of iron oxide. Its unique color reminds us of crushed or shaved ice swirled with strawberry jam or grenadine.

Tanzanite

Found only in Tanzania, near Mt. Kilimanjaro, this rare, highly coveted version of the mineral zoisite comes in gorgeous shades of blue, blue-violet and vibrant purple. It was first discovered in 1967, and   is also a relatively new alternative birthstone for the month of December.

Topaz

A traditionally yellow or orange-yellow stone akin to citrine, except it’s an aluminum silicate mineral, not a form of quartz. White or colorless topaz is widely available and is sometimes used in lieu of diamonds as an accent stone; it is also treated to take on the popular marine blue color of topaz, a stone that tends to be as affordable as it is beautiful.

Tourmaline

Tourmaline is an aluminum borosilicate mixed with a variety of different metals including iron or magnesium. Tourmaline color is determined by the type of metal and how much metal they contain. Tourmaline gemstones can be many different colors, including black, blue, green, pink, red, violet and yellow. The name originates from the Singhalese word “turamali,” which means "stone of mixed color".

Turquoise

Turquoise is an opaque blue-to-green mineral that is a hydrated phosphate of copper and aluminum. It is rare and valuable in finer grades and is thereby referred to as "sleeping beauty" turquoise. Turquoise has been used as an ornamental stone for thousands of years. The word turquoise dates to the 17th century and is derived from the french word turquois, meaning "Turkish". This name was given because the mineral was first brought to Europe through Turkey from the mines of Persia.
